Designed by architect Aristide Antonas, the Meteorite Unit-Leonidou 58 is one of 45 projects organized by property developers, Oliaros in the KM – Kerameikos-Metaxourgiou inner city redevelopment project  in 2010, the UPTO35 International Architectural Competition, and the first to be awarded ‘The Best Project 2008-10’ by Domes architecture magazine.

The new structure is built on a site containing the ruins of a group of old houses also being renovated and forms an annex to an existing building, connected by an external flight of steps. The metal framework is covered with metallic grids creating a visual filter on the façade. The rear of the annex is fitted with glass plate, connecting the traditional with the contemporary. The new metallic structure is built on stilts and the ground floor forms a public courtyard, sorely needed in this built-up inner city area, also a reference to the building practices popular in the past, of the courtyard being the central feature of several homes, thereby creating a community environment. This is referred to in a study of the respected architect Aris Constantantinidis “The Old Houses of Athens (in Greek 1950) in which he states his interest in upholding the concept of courtyards within the architecture of Athens.
