Architect Emrah Cetinkaya has submitted a proposal for the design of the new Izmir Opera House. This is a project challenging architects to create a building which will establish the city of Izmir as a Center for Commerce and Culture.
The design consists of flowing lines and organic curves resembling human forms or topographical shapes. Views of the Aegean in addition to weather and environmental factors have all been taken into account.
Emrah Cetinkaya has given great consideration to the history and culture of the city from a modern point of view and believes that Art has a function in creating the identity of a society. To this end, his structure contains all elements of the needs of a community including public walkways and facilities for vehicles. The main area is an urban art dome which he has named the Artistic Foyer. The intention is to create a connection between art and the artist and the general public.
Emrah Cetinkaya has already participated in several public projects in the area surrounding the location of the planned Opera House.
