Designed by Fearon Hay Architects, the Island Retreat is blending perfectly into the natural hues of the surrounding landscape of Waiheke Island, New Zealand. Leaving its guests mesmerized by the breathtaking natural surroundings, the retreat provides an intimate, relaxing setting to take in the beauty of tranquility and relaxation.

Initially inspired by a study of lightweight, canopy-like structures tied to the ground, the architects created an arrangement of freestanding volumes which surround a shielded central courtyard and lie in a saddle in Matiatia Bay. Special emphasis was placed on the organic ripples, so as to form a natural backdrop for the three roofed structures and a freestanding raised pool. The monochromatic color palette of the muted outdoor materials is enhanced by the rich textures of timbers, textiles and natural stones of the interior.

The indoor scenery, designed by Penny Hay, consists of a ravishing collection of furniture and lighting by B&B Italia, Boffi, Tom Dixon and Catellani & Smith, creating a flawlessly contemporary character and an atmosphere of priceless serenity.
