Located on a ridge above the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, is the Fairhaven Residence, a beach house which is the inspirational design of the practice of John Wardle Architects. The design concept follows the principle of scenography, the stunning views dictating the positioning of the multi-faceted structure to frame each aspect through the vast transparences.

Clad in green-grey zinc, the resilient material merges with the landscape unobtrusively, in spite of the ultra contemporary design of the structure. In contrast, the interior is timber clad, an alternative choice for every surface of the home, ceilings, walls and floors, making any additional decorative features entirely unnecessary. The varied hues of the timber are also mirrored in the custom made furnishings creating a harmonious warm embrace for the occupants.

Entry to the home is beneath the cantilevered study, a series of twists and turns of a puzzle like maze leads into a huge kitchen, living and dining space in which the seascape is framed through sliding floor to ceiling windows. Each room opens out onto a sheltered decked courtyard, a sanctuary to be enjoyed when weather conditions become harsh, making this wonderfully dramatic structure, a perfect holiday home for all seasons!
