Nestled in woodland, overlooking Cape Town Harbour, South Africa and at the foot of Table Mountain, we can find ‘Bridle Road Residence’- the award winning (ASLA 2010 Honour Award) design by Chilean born architect Antonio Zaninovic, known for his ecological approach to design. Zaninovic established his practice with Spanish born architect Ana Corrochano in 2005 after spending 5 years with Steven Harris Architects of New York.

This family home, built around a courtyard with shallow pools, is in perfect harmony with its environment owing to its simple lines and understated elegance. Similar considerations continue within the interior where Lucien Rees of Rees Roberts & Partners of New York has made good use of the generous dimensions of the rooms to create a comfortable yet stylish habitat. Several sustainable solutions have been incorporated into the design such as heat repelling glass and ventilation systems which make full use of local climatic and geological features.

The gardens, landscaped by David Kelly of Rees Roberts & Partners, lead from the main building reflecting the hilly terrain, to a self cleaning pool and lounging deck. The extensive use of local greenery in the garden is an ingenious way to deceive the eye and make it difficult to determine where the surroundings end and the garden begins.
