The renovation of “The Base”, one of Sansiri’s Sales Galleries in Bangkok, Thailand, was undertaken by Supermachine Studio Design Team. The designers welcomed the relatively small project as it presented a challenge, due to the concept and usage of the building, and are delighted to have completed the whole project within a three month period and at the same time being presented with the opportunity for experimentation and innovation. The result is a dramatic transformation of an ordinary building into an extraordinary asset to the neighborhood.

The designers were eager to implement their favorite ‘Moire’ pattern in the design, which they do whenever they can. After trying out several patterns for the skin, with which they intended to surround the existing building, they decided on a dark blue Moire Mask. They installed a double layer of skin, perforated with polka dots of various sizes and patterns.  The natural daylight reflected through the openings onto the interior walls constantly changes as the customers move around the building. At nightfall, the building undergoes a metamorphosis as the interior illumination elevates its status and it becomes much more than just a ‘building around a courtyard.’
